im new nice to meet you :)
hi everyone im new at the forums and i registered cause i have ubuntu installed as an os on my netbook and am learning how to use it. i really like it so far and of course it came preinstalled with python so im happy lol. only thing is this is my first programming language to learn and its just i feel like im just so lousy at it. i can take a look at a compiled code and see i really understand it for the most part except the occasional piece here and there that baffles me.. but i really make an effort if i dont understand something to understand it. but then the simplest code idk if it is because im tired or what but im having trouble writing. ive been at this for about 2 weeks in all. has anyone else just been really frustrated with coding and just wanted to jump to their death lol. encouragements much welcomed and nice to meet you all.
im mainly looking for encouragements here so please post all about yourself... where your from, what you program in, how many years now, and if you are just a natural born genius that picked it up no problem or maybe have had some hardships along the way. i figure this is not only a great way to meet ppl but get some encouragements

Welcome to LinuxForums!

Personally, I don't do much by way of programming... I have a few simple little scripts written on my box that make a couple of tasks a little easier, but that's about it. Quite a few of the members here do, however, have some pretty strong skills in programming, though.
As far as getting started in Python, have you looked at there online tutorial?Jay

Howdy and Welcome. While I am not a script kiddy. I get around OK using Linux. Running Hexxehs Flow OS off Pendrive at the moment. My regular OSes are in my profile and also who I am and where I am from. Just a rough and tumble Linux using Biker is all. Goes to show. Anybody can do this stuff. Have Fun and Happy Trails, Rok

Welcome to LFO.
I have been programming computers since I was thirteen years old, starting with a Vic 20, and then Atari ST and STe computers. I actually wrote a shoot 'em up for my Vic 20 using machine code. That is pure hex, no “namby pamby” languages like assembler. During a lengthy professional programming career spanning significantly more than twenty years, I have worked in many languages. The most notable being RPG 3, RPG 4 ILE, CL, Basic, Cobol, Pascal, Vb Script, Javascript, Java, C#, PHP and SQL. I have even worked in C, well translating a C socket program into RPG 4!
I have just started getting in to C properly by going through the K&R book. I don't have much time so it has taken a couple of weeks and I aint at the end of chapter 1 yet
I have never coded in Python but it looks like a good first language and is one I may look at in the future.
Being mostly self taught, my advice is to take your time and understand the underlying concepts as it will make picking any language a lot easier. Oh and most of all have fun.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
