The IT Crowd (tv series)
This British comedy was suggested in another TV series thread here on the forums by meton_magis:
"The IT Crowd" (2006)
After reading up on it at the IMDB, I ended up watching a few episodes and must admit that it is a good one, and very worthy of it's own discussion thread in my opinion. I certainly plan to watch all the remaining episodes.
Any computer geeks/nerds that hang out here should be able to relate to it because the premise for the show is the 3-person IT support team that are stationed and pretty much neglected in the basement of a high-rise office building. The team manager is computer illiterate for the most part, so that adds to the comedic potential.
They have three seasons behind them and are already scheduled for a fourth.
Have any of the rest of you seen it?Last edited by oz; 03-03-2010 at 03:43 PM. Reason: spell

Not sure, but I'm thinking they've tried to keep the technical jargon in fairly simple terms so as not to lose too much of the audience. I really like the fact that the episodes are only 23 minutes each (without commercials) making it easy to catch up on the entire series. I'm currently streaming it through Netflix so it won't take long to be fully up to date with it.

Having done that job - it's one of the funniest things I have seen. The first episode of the second season nearly put me in hospital. I laughed so much I had a MASSIVE asthma attack. It's called "Work Outing"...

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

hmm, interesting. First I've heard of it, but ...
As an IT guy myself, I'm wondering if the humor is as appealing to geeks as it is to non geeks.
As a point of comparison, I thought Dilbert was humor designed for geeks, non-geeks might not get a lot of it.

I love the IT Crowd, can't wait for the new series to turn up....if it ever does.
Interestingly the series is written by an Irish team, Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews. They've worked on other series such as Big Train (which featured Simon Pegg) and their classic Father Ted. The history of Father Ted is that RTÉ, our national broadcaster wouldn't run it because it heavily lampooned the Catholic Church, despite being very light-hearted. They took it to Channel 4 in the UK who bought it up and now produce the IT Crowd too. RTÉ have been kicking themselves since
My sister met these guys while out drinking in Dublin one night, they both seem really cool. She got a bunch of photos with them too. Although the IT Crowd is kinda tech-oriented, if you appreciate the humour in it I can highly recommend Father Ted. There were only ever about 13 episodes and they are absolutely hilarious...or at least were last time I watched them. It's about three priests on an island of the west coast of Ireland, essentially there because they're the worst priests. Ted himself sees himself as the clever one and assumes the leader role, while Fr.Dougal is a moron and Fr.Jack is a semi-comatose alcoholic.
Back to the IT Crowd though, I thought Matt Berry was a fantastic addition to the cast. His booming voice is funny enough in itself and I already loved him in Darkplace and Snuff Box. Classic lines such as "I was born reeaaaahhahddyyyyy...." and "It's my laptop....I can't seem to get the thing open". Of course that means nothing out of context.

I'd imagine they are quite different from their on-screen characters, but it would be fun to run into them somewhere like that. So, I'm guessing Jen, the girl boss in the show wasn't there with them? She's quite talented, and this is the first time I've seen her in anything that I can recall.
It's just an all around fun show to watch, so I'm glad that meton_magis made me aware of it.oz
