Yeah. I know it is a Linux Forum and all. But I know there are a bunch of dual booters here that might find THIS a interesting read....

As it stands now, Microsoft has received the last penny it will ever get from me or mine. I won't order any new system with Windows - they will either be bare systems, or come with Linux or FreeDOS preinstalled. I won't purchase any Microsoft software, and if I have to run some Windows software in a native Windows environment, I will continue to use my MSDN licensed XP image in a Linux virtual machine. At this point, I only have 1 Windows application that doesn't run under Wine or that has a native Linux correlary available that serves the same purposes. There are a couple of others that I use (newsgroup reader and skype) that I run on native XP because of convenience.

At this time, there are only the following Windows applications that I run:

    1. QuickPar (wine) - frequently
    2. Adobe Framemaker (wine) - occasionally
    3. Adobe Photoshop (wine) - rarely
    4. Sparx Enterprise Architect (wine) - daily
    5. Fidelity Active Trader Pro / Options Trader Pro (VirtualBox) - daily
    6. TMPGenc DVD Author (wine) - occasionally
    7. Android Newsgroup Downloader (VirtualBox) - occasionally
    8. Epson Print-CD (VirtualBox) - occasionally
    9. Epson Scanner (VirtualBox) - occasionally
    10. Skype w/ bluetooth headset & webcam (VirtualBox) - daily

These are on my CentOS 5.4 system. The bluetooth headset, webcam, and skype bundle I can run natively on my Ubuntu laptops. Hopefully I'll be able to switch to sane/xsane for the scanner soon. I still have some futzing to do to get it to work properly for me. Until then, when I need to scan documents for business I can do it using the USB pass-thru capability of my VirtualBox VM to Windows XP.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
