Back in the saddle again.
I'm glad my laptop doesn't have artificial intelligence, because in the two and a half years I've owned it I would have likely given it serious identity issues. I just can't seem to keep any single OS on the thing for more than a couple of months. Since November I've been running Windows 7 Professional on it, and it's performed well.
I've had no real complaints, but I did some re-evaluation on what I actually use my laptop for (not much these days, amongst all my other gadgets) and decided that there's no real reason I can't run Linux on it instead. Naturally, in geek speak, if there's no real reason not to do something it immediately becomes an imperative.
So, as of this morning I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 exclusively, and plan on replacing that with the release candidate and eventually full release of Lucid Lynx (10.04) when it comes out next month. I don't know why I felt it necessary to announce that to everyone. Perhaps I just like attention.

I've never been a big fan of Ubuntu even though I've installed many different releases over the years, but I truly do admire Canonical Ltd. greatly for all that they've done to make computer users around the world Linux aware, and the fact that they've sent thousands (or more) free copies of the distribution to people world-wide. You've gotta love them for that!
... and as is generally the case, I'll likely be trying their latest, Lucid Lynx, once it goes stable.

When I first read Ubuntu's open source mission statement I was very impressed!! Humanity would be well served if our leaders led us using the very same principles!!

Yes, I've often wondered how the Ubuntu folks come up with those names.
The same goes with Firefox... names like Namoroka. I've already forgotten what previous versions were called.oz

- 03-05-2010 #6Mine would be "Grinning Gorilla"Does anyone know if they've come up with names for the next couple releases? If not, I have some suggestions:
I have been testing out Mepis and AntiX 8.5 for a while. Mepis 6 was my intro
distro that just worked and made Linux easy for me to understand. I later moved to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS when I was told Mepis 6 was no longer supported.
I have 2 left thumbs when dealing with a KDE Desktop. So I stuck with Ubuntu Gnome till I learned how to use Icewm and Fluxbox profieciently .
I run 804 LTS since then on my Main Dual core and it has been rock stable.
After Lucid comes out. I will give it a few months to settle down first. But Mepis 8.5 is looking pretty good so far to this Biker. So I aint real sure yet what I will do.Linux Registered User # 475019
