Exclamation Alert: nvidia graphics driver bug

Anyone running the 195.36.x or some 196.x nvidia graphics drivers might want to consider downgrading until further notice because of a potentially hardware damaging bug that has been reported:

nV News Forums - Announcements in Forum : General Linux

We believe recent NVIDIA UNIX graphics drivers, 195.36.08 and 195.36.03, are also affected by this. Until the problem is resolved, we recommend that UNIX users revert to the 190.53 web release or the 195.30 public beta.

Unfortunately, the 195.36.08 is required with the latest 2.6.33 kernel... so a downgrade in the nvidia module will also require an older kernel.

The 2.6.33 kernel works with nvidia 173.14.25 which is available in the beta list. I've been using it for a couple of weeks without a problem.

I was testing the 195.36 package for nVidia a couple of weeks ago and reported this issue with CPU utilization being way up over previous builds. Guess it finally got some attention...
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
