Both are user friendly. It'd be sort of like going from your present car to a newer one. Everything will be a little different, but it will still do essentially the same things. You might be a little more challenged getting non-free things going with OpenSuSE over the boxed version.

    Hi!

If I may suggest, why don't you try to install as many distros as you can on a virtual machine. That way, you can have a hands on experience on as many OSes as you desire.

    Hope this helps

    Welcome to the forums!

It's been a while since I last used Ubuntu and OpenSuse but the biggest difference that I recall was one of them being brown and the other green. Otherwise, they are about the same except for the package management tools, various kernel patches, and perhaps the desktop environment.

The best option is to try both and make the comparison as seen through your own eyes, rather than someone else's. Being experimental with Linux is a big part of the charm.

Hope you have fun with it and wind up with a distro that you really like!
