If you're looking for a general idea of what most people in the world are interested in, try DistroWatch, as was suggested. If you're looking for a more specific look at what people on this forum are using, try this thread:

Most of the members here including myself are using Linux as their OS, but a large number of the guests/visitors here are using Windows or OS X for their current OS. The link to the poll provided above by techieMoe will give you a good indicator as to which distribution is being used by those members that voted.

I use Debian on my PowerPC computers, Debian and Angstrom on my ARM devices, Ubuntu for x86-x64 servers, and a mixture of Slitaz, Damn Small, Ubuntu Arch, Fedora, and Gentoo on my x86 Desktops. Its not that I try to be completely and udderly retarded when it comes to choosing a distro, its just that the relative mosh of linux distros in my room keeps me on my feet. ( I am quite young, and my parents dislike the conglomerate of PCs and other devices that dominate the house and my room

If i had to say one definite Distrobution, I use Debian the most. It doesn't have any issues other than a little more configuration than Ubuntu.
