I agree. I have tried quite a lot of good distros but I must say Linux Mint (7 in particular) has been on my top 3 most user friendly list.

I started thinking about it... the only thing I can think of that it doesn't have waiting for you is Wine... which is easy enough to install anyway.

Sorry for delay in getting back. Been locked out of log-in here. Anyway, I've focused research on Linux Mint & PCLinux. Already know about 'Wine' (saw somewhere it can run Word 2003), so its definitely on my software list!

    Can you clarify?

Get the 2010-2 version. I like it because updating is idiot proof.
I've decided to go ahead and buy either bootable CD or DVD. Do you mean:
    PCLinuxOS 2010 Beta 2?
Could not find anything listed "2010-2 version" on the site you gave, but google search turned up source for a Beta2 version. Also, doesn't beta versions denote it has 'bugs' or is 'unstable'? I'll hold off on buying til I hear back from you. Once again, thanks for your advice!

I decided to go ahead and buy either bootable CD or DVD of Linux Mint 7. Google search turned up source (http://on-disc.com) which lists:
    Linux Mint 7 KDE edition
" " 7 Final Software Repository DVD Set
    " " 7 Live Installable CD
Up To Date Linux Mint 7 Final Live Installable DVD
Which do you suggest? I've no preference between bootable CD & DVD. Just need all my requirements (previous post) met.
