A good way to learn
Having finished a novel that took up twelve years of my life, I find myself with some spare time on my hands. So I've volunteered to do some editing for OpenOffice.org. I couldn't have done what I did without OO and I feel I owe them something.
I'm working on the user guide to Draw V3. Now I know nothing about Draw but I do know a bit about how to make English run smoothly, especially in a document that started out as a translation from French. The strange thing is that, as I work, I'm remembering the content of the chapters I've edited in a way that I wouldn't if I were simply reading them. In fact I don't find user guides very useful if I try to read them straight through - my head soon starts to swim and I get all mixed up. But if you edit them, it seems the information they contain somehow gets impressed on your brain. I can definitely recommend it as a way of learning about software."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Amazing on the novel. Is it going to be published?
I fully agree. I've always found trying to present information to other people in whatever format is the best way to learn. That's part of why I like to try and help on the forums - it teaches me.

It is published. I published it myself online. But I can't tell you what it's called or how to find it because I did that in an earlier post and the mods promptly pulled it. I suppose they felt it constituted an advertisement. Well, I'm not going to argue with the moderators. First it's undignified and secondly, I really do appreciate all the hard work they put in to keep the atmosphere sweet here at LF. If you want to know what a slackly-moderated forum looks like, just drop in at Debian Forums. The amount of trolling and flaming that goes on there has to be seen to be believed.
Anyway, if you want to find out what kind of a novel this old woman would write, you should be able to track it down yourself starting from the review on Cousin Lucky's website."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

What I am learning is to get away from the doom and gloom mindset about computers that was brought on by my windows traumas! Ozar walked my through editing my grub menu list and just today I found out how to put up links on my website's Parables pages.
