Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx"
With the final release a week away and the release candidate due any minute now, I'm curious if anyone has tried out the latest version of Ubuntu, and if so what are your thoughts?
EDIT:: Took me a bit to find a download link.

I'm holding out this time. I'm really looking forward to it. Even though I've been a bit wary of online-services being integrated into the desktop I think the Ubuntu guys have taken a slick approach. I do hear the current test build has a memory leak in Xorg that will bring your system to a halt over time so it's probably just as well to avoid it for the few days.
Outside of that I can't wait to see the new artwork in action and the new boot times should be great.

I have tried beta version but it didn't work properly. Installer was very buggy too. I got it install after 3rd try only.
New look is really nice but I couldn't explore anything because of a random lockups and display problems. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I always wait for the final release but I am looking forward to it. I have seen screenshots of the new look and I think it is by far better than the awful brown that we have suffered in the past. It doesn't really matter to me though as I set up my own theme minutes after install

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Minor addition: I played with my Kindle in Lucid today with pleasing results. I'm not sure whether credit is due to Ubuntu or Calibre, but either way it's nice to know I can use my latest toy without issues. I've updated the rant.

I probably sounded a bit more alarmist than was necessary, wasn't really my intention. In the past few releases they've been integrating more services and they've all been great. It started when your IM status was linked in with the desktop (8.10?). Now they are plugging Gwibber in too from what I can see meaning your Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Del.icio.us etcetera will all be tied in too.
Oh an also Ubuntu One is still there and enabled by default and it now has a friend in the form of Ubuntu Music Store visible from Rhythmbox.
These are all cool things and easily disabled. I think for the common user today it's not a bad idea to take this approach. Most people outside of geek circles that I speak to are limited to Facebook, YouTube and Gmail so it won't hurt Ubuntu anyway!
