The latest Microsoft bug
This one really is amusing. It's not actually a bug in Windows but in McAfee's anti-virus. However, the only reason why people use products like McAfee is because Windows is so vulnerable to malware. And of course, if you have an anti-virus program, you must update it every day; in fact it usually rings home and updates itself automatically..
Well, the latest McAfee update turns out to be compatible with Vista and Windows 7 but not with XP. If you have XP, it will start rebooting uncontrollably. And most office systems are still using XP because Vista is so crappy. According to what I read, 8,000 out of 25,000 computers at the University of Michigan Medical School crashed yesterday.

When my wife bought her new Acer Laptop with Windows 7. The first thing I did was uninstall all the junk that comes packaged with that Laptop. Macafee was one of them. 90 day trail something or other. Put the Avast on there instead with MalwareBytes and Sp[ywareware Blaster.
She has been Ok so far with that setup. That was the ony time I got to touch her Laptop. It was creepy.Linux Registered User # 475019

I was never a fan of McAfee. Used Norton for a while (because it was free with something I bought), but it was a resource hog. On Windows 7 I've found that the Microsoft in-house antivirus tool (Security Essentials) actually does a decent enough job keeping my system clean.
Of course, I take regular backups and tend to not save anything irreplaceable on a local drive, so perhaps I have less to worry about than most people.Registered Linux user #270181
