    It sure would be nice if someone compiled a Linux software program that would detect any and all information about to leave my computer and request my permission before it left. When I ran windows xp my old Kerio Firewall did just that.

    Microsoft went and bought Kerio; so the new versions permit microsoft's phone-home notifications to go through!!

    It would be also great if a New York City Linux guru had a shop here to find spyware, malware, and all of the other bad stuff infecting Linux machines!

    You mean an application-based firewall? That is, where a dialog box appears asking whether you want allow application x to send traffic.

    Here is one:

    I don't know this program and therefore can't recommend it.

    It looks like it is designed to run on a dedicated server with two network cards so it is a full firewall rather than a desktop firewall.
