They have been working on it for a bit already. Personally I am staying with ext4. I am guessing around Fedora 14, Ubuntu 11.04, etc it will be stable enough for me to feel comfortable with it.

Yeah you mentioned btrfs before. I think it's an interesting development, but I don't know if I'd use it as a default filesystem just yet. Development is going pretty rapidly is my impression.

Still, Fedora is of course bleedin' edge, so there's something to be said for such early adaptation. On a side note, I found my Slackware stock kernel already has btrfs as loadable module (although it lacks the toolchain). But enabling btrfs capability surely would mean I'd have to get every related package 'current'.

Lakshmipathi, have you tried it yet? I wonder how it compares to zfs(-fuse).
Can't tell an OS by it's GUI

Freston, I haven't tried btrfs yet - Few weeks back I have downloaded the brtfs src - but haven't installed/tested it. I'll be doing it soon.

My initial impression ,btrfs developers has two things in mind -
1.Implementing excellent concepts/features of Reiserfs (OT,i feel sad for Reiser - who is serving a life term in prison)
    2.Then competing ZFS (not Zfs-fuse )

I found A short history of btrfs [LWN.net] and currently reading it
