Creating a Linux Distro
I have been using Linux OS since 4 years and I'm very interested to know how to create a Linux Distro. I have heard about LFS.
I would just like to know, what do I need to create a Linux Distro?
I'm not a programmer, if I have to create a Linux Distro, what programming languages do I need to know.
And also, how many people are required and how much time will it take to create a Linux Distro?
Thanks in Advance.

One person can make a distro, like Slackware. But you can just modify an existing distribution, Ubuntu is the little sister of Debian for example.
I know the "chief" of Elive, a Debian where E17 is very well integrated, and this guys earns his living with it
!
I know an other guys who modified Ubuntu for add a lot of thing (proprietary codec, a theme and other thing like that, like Linux Mint).
You can make your own distribution with LFS yes, but it's a lot of work.
I've forget the name of a good software for modify a distribution... I will search on Google.

In Ubuntu, you can use remastersys to create a custom install on your machine and then create a live cd iso ready for distribution.
Of course you'll learn a whole lot less than doing lfs but it will be quicker and easier
If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Welcome to the forums!

The answer to that question would depend on the abilities of the people creating the distro and the specifics of the distro to be created.
You'd probably be better off finding a distro that you really like and then becoming a member of their development team so that you can gain some experience that would serve you well in creating your own distro at some point down the road. Keep in mind that there are hundreds of distros out there already, so if yours isn't outstanding in some way there is a good chance that it will fail. Here's a listing of but a few of them:

Best of luck to you with it whichever route you should take.oz

Thanks a lot for the reply Koshie, elija and ozar.
I have decided to first be a member of a development team first and after I gain some experience with Linux, I will then begin with LFS.

I'm reading the handbook of LFS and it's really very interesting ! Seriously I'm very excited by the prospect to make my GNU/Linux, and maybe if it works with a little team I will redistribute it
... But now is a far dream.
Auzern if you have time, maybe we can make their separate LFS, and maybe later can we make own GNU/Linux distribution :P.
