    Hello and welcome!

It's not great for everyone, but the only way you'll know for sure if it's great for you is to try it yourself. In addition to the link provided above by jayd, you can check the link in my signature for more info on getting started with Linux.

We hope you'll have lots of fun with it!

    Welcome!

A good beginning would be to go to distrowatch.com and view the top 100 distro list. Then download and try the Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu ISO files. Make a live cd with each and discover which one works best for you and your hardware. Pick one and install it, then use it for a couple of weeks before trying other live distros to see if there is one you like better. You may find that one works best to start with, but that in a few weeks you have gained enough knowledge that a different one suits you now. Best of luck.
Check this sites "How To's" Installing Linux (Keeping Windows) Linux article.
Also the linux newbie forum: "All new users read this first", Techiemoe explains how to burn an ISO (http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...ll-cd-dvd.html) and has several other informative links too.
