Iphone 4 vs the Droid phones...
I've got a iPhone 3g and with my 2 year contract almost finished and the new iPhone 4 just been released along with many different droid phones it begs the question...
Get an iPhone 4 or droid phone...there seems to be so many pro's & con's out there...I thought I'd ask some other geeks their opinions...so lets have it
(can't find a poll function on this board to use otherwise I would have put one up)

I haven't used Android myself but I've read about both iPhone and Andriod phones.
androidcentral.com/android-vs-iphone-4-specs (I can't post URLs yet, you'll have to add the "http etc." for yourself if it doesn't work righ away)
A comparison of specs to iPhone and various Android phones can be found at the site above
As for the applications, the AppStore in iPhone is a closed market. Android market is open. As a Linux fanboy I would believe the open market is a first choice, since it makes it possible for more applications and/or a greater variety of applications, a bit like Linux with distribution. But AppStore hosts many more apps in it's store, though they both have thousands of apps so it's not a big deal.
Android is OpenSource, and iOS is defenitly NOT open source, this is a great plus for android. Android can multitask! But the games to Android aren't as good, what I've heard..
Remember this is all research and I'm not even sure I'm right myself.
As for what I would have bought: Android. It just seems better to me

I have an Android phone (Google Nexus One, made by HTC) currently running the latest Android 2.2, and my wife has an iPhone 3G with the latest iOS installed on it. We each love our phones, so here are some of my observations:
1. The iPhone is more mature and deals with the multi-touch interface better. The Android OS is getting better in that regard, and some of the newest Android phones have much better touch processors, getting as good or better at multi-touch than Apple.
2. As stated, the applications in the iPhone store are more mature and you have better games and such as a result. This is changing quickly as the Android market develops and matures.
3. As you may have heard, the new iPhone 4 has some serious design problems with the antennas. My wife and I were talking about that today, and we realize that we both use our phones in a way that would not work well on the iPhone 4 with this problem. My advice is that if you REALLY want an iPhone 4 that you wait until they resolve the issue.
4. If you have a significant investment in iPhone applications and games, remember that you will probably have to reinvest to replace them on the Android phone, assuming there are replacements for them. So far, everything I have installed on my Android phone have been free - some have some sort of advertising to subsidize them, but none of those have been too obnoxious in use.
5. The latest Android OS supports tethering and use as a WiFi hotspot, which is something the iPhone won't do. I even have AT&T as a provider (the phone was unlocked), and can still do that.
6. Most Android phones have user-accessible batteries, SIM, and memory cards. My Nexus One can take up to a 32GB micro sd card which is several hundred albums worth of mp3s...
Overall, I think it is a wash. Myself, I just refuse to pay the Apple and Microsoft tax on PC's and mobile devices. I'll happily pay for an application that I want/need if there is no open source one that provides the same or needed features - after all, I am a software developer also, and I do like to keep the mortgage paid and food on the table.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
