Hi, I'm old (61) but new!

...but still fairly new to Linux. I've been a full time Linux user for over four years now. My favorite 'flavor' is Debian Stable (currently Lenny but it was Sarge when I started tinkering with Debian). I was always afraid to dual boot my desktop machine so I bought a used tower and a cheap KVM switch. Welcome aboard.

    Welcome to you too.

I switched to Mint (exclusively) about 12 months ago having played with many distros for about 6 months prior to that. Today I'm using a different computer which to my suprise has a triple boot, ArtistX, Mandriva and Win XP Pro. Out of interest I tried XP again - it's horrible!

I know precious little about Linux except to say that Mint suits my needs and I'll never go back to any MS product.

That's not old. I'll be 65 in a couple of weeks.

    That was cute hazel

Welcome elder geek... I haven't played with Debian seriously. I have used Ubuntu and some other Debian derivatives. Currently I use Fedora 13 and couldn't be happier.

There are quite a few of us "old fogeys" that lurk on the forums! I'm 62 and have been developing software on *nix systems since the early 80's. I consult and teach now mostly, but some of my consulting work is embedded linux development, along with performance and reliability analysis of large scale distributed enterprise systems. My workstation runs CentOS 5.5, my laptops (3 of them) run Ubuntu 9.04, and my phone is a Nexus One Android phone.

Welcome! I'm 54 and using Debian 5, Simply Mepis and SAM. My wife's using Mint 8 KDE. Judging from the age poll here in the coffee lounge, interest in Linux isn't confined to any age group.

Which, IMHO, is a good thing! It shows that Linux has a broad appeal.
