    Traceroute of Email

    Hi!

    May I please know how to use traceroute to get the ip ad of an email received in my yahoo account? I tried playing aroun with it but seems to bring me nowhere.

    You can only go so far with this. You could find the IP address of the originating SMTP server by checking the lowest Received header field in your e-mail. However, e-mail header fields are completely insecure, and it is trivial to fake them.

    Even if the fields are accurate, they will only provide you with the IP address of the originating SMTP server. For instance, if I send you an e-mail from Gmail, you can only get so far as the Gmail IP address: you will never see my personal IP address.
