Hello!!!
Greetings to All!
I've looked at Linux (Unbuntu, Suse to name a few) in the very distant past, and now the 'bug' has hit me again!!! I asked one of my Network Ops friends here at work with the intent on creating a server at home for use (file storage etc.). I asked, 'What are you thoughts about MS Home Server?' in which he replied...'I've a friend whom I threatened to do bodily harm should he even think about using MS Home Server!!!! ... I suggest you use Linux (Unbuntu was his primary choice).
That being said, here I am
A neophyte in the world of Linux!!! I happened this site while Googling Unbuntu Server. After several minutes of 'wondering', I decided to join (found it very informational and friendly).
I've already d/l and burned the 32 bit version (I will be using an older machine for a server - 1.8 ghz, 1 gig RAM, 2 40gig drives) and hoping it's suitable for the task at hand (will try to install later this evening).
Thanks,
FBM

Unbuntu it is!
Update:
After several reinstalls of Unbuntu (don't ask .. LOL), I decided to give Debian (Lenny) a shot running as my server. After sweating, reloading, reconfiguring and a great deal of surfing the web for configuration instructions, I decided to give Unbuntu another try!!! (of course after reading and gathering a better understanding of things
).
I finally have my server not only running, but able to connect the PCs (5) in my home!!!! What a relief!!! Now that it's running, I'm going to venture into the security aspect of things (don't really think it's needed, but it doesn't hurt to learn).
First LINUX server and am pleased 1so far) with the results. Especially since I'm using an old DIY machine. Didn't ask many questions. Just trying to figure things out on my own (questions will soon come..
)
Thanks!
