    Greetings from Nebraska

    Hello,

I am new to the forum and I want to introduce myself.

I am from Nebraska and have been interested in computers for some time. I am interested in learning to use Linux. My desire is to one day help program the kernal.

I would like to learn how use and program in Linux. Could anyone suggest good beginner distributions that would be easy to install on an old iBook? I am also kinda at a loss of were to start with Linux kernal programming. Could anyone suggest a good starting point? I know a little C and Objective-C.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, we're glad you decided to join us. As to a good distro for a newbie, Ubuntu is at the top of the distrowatch.com download list. If Ubuntu is too much for an older system, xubuntu or lubuntu are good choices. Picking the right distro for you is best done by downloading a number of live cd's or live dvd's from distrowatch.com and trying them. Have fun investigating the possibilities of a world without windows.
