An old question asked again: Kernel 2.8?

I have to ask, since I see no good answer anywhere. Is Linus even planning on MAKING a kernel 2.8? It's 2010 and we've had 2.6 for seven years! Any good answers?

Nobody knows better what Linus plans to do than Linus himself, so you might want to join some of the Linux kernel mailing lists and ask him what his future plans are for the Linux kernel. Otherwise, it seems to me that the kernel is getting updated regularly and new features are being added with pretty much every release, regardless of what version number is assigned to it.

i agree, the version number is somewhat irrelevant here, whether or not you could argue that the amount of changes makes it significantly different than 2.6 originally was is another story though

To make 2.8 there has to be 2.7 development version. Do you see it?

It was recently reported that Torvald had said the code had become bloated. Wouldn't that nececessitate a rewrite to 3.0 to clean up?
