    Introducing myself...

    Hello all,

    I've just joined the forum today. Took a look around all the various sub-forums and am really glad I joined.

    I work as a planning engineer in an electric utility style company and before that I was at university (UT Austin) and all through its been Windows. 98 was the first OS I really used properly (MS-DOS doesn't count for much), then it was XP, Vista (that was a disaster - ended up crashing my hard-drive) and now its Windows 7.

    I heard about Linux quite a while back and even tried out Red Hat briefly, but I wasn't that interested until I learned about cloud computing and parallel processing. I've heard that its many orders quicker and more efficient to run my applications (they consume a lot of memory and time) in parallel on Linux, so I thought I'd take another look. So now I have Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid?) on my laptop and I'm in need of learning all I can about Linux.

    I'm looking forward to learning and participating on these forums.
