How can you not use a Desktop Environment? What do you use? Command line alone?

Yup, Command-line alone. Why would I need more than that?

How about since you miss the chance of fitting 9 terminal emulators on the screen at once? X is a great multiplexing technology. Also, since the resolution is so much higher, you can fit more text in your emacs window.

Also, some pages aren't really that well designed, so they really don't work very well in either lynx or links, unfortunately. Try browsing SourceForge with lynx, for example... =/

Also, back to multiplexing, it is actually rather convinient to be able to corner your screen with different meters and stuff (like a CPU usage diagram, for example). It's also hard to support multiple monitors without X (it's possible with the ruby patch and framebuffer consoles, but there aren't framebuffer drivers for that very many cards, unfortunately).

I guess you have a point there, but I personally don't feel that i need this thing so I think I will stick to command-line only until I feel it is too time consuming to do it my way.
BTW, If you wnt to browse sourceforge you can always use links.

Indeed, links was better for sourceforge. However, links doesn't support IPv6. ;-)

as far as which DE i think is better, that would have to be GNOME.

that having been said, i use Enlightenment DR16... and when E17 comes out, i'll switch to that...
