    Window Managers

So which GUI are you using? Last I used Debian I was using BlackBox, however now I see the Wiki hasn't been updated for 4 years. Gnome is way bloated for the notebook I have it installed on and to be frank it reminds me of my Ubuntu notebook.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

I've heard a lot of good things about Lxde and added it to my sources.list file, however could not locate the public key. Then as history repeats itself, I played around with other things on the system and broke it. Oh well, it's my play notebook.

    Cheers.

Just noticed this was moved! Probably should have been more specific in my thread title that I was hoping for Debian specific responses. Oh well.

Added what to your sources.list? LXDE should be in the normal Debian repositories.

    Debian - LXDE.org
Debian -- Package Search Results -- lxde

By default, LXDE uses openbox, but you can substitute other window managers as well.

    Other sources of info:

Motho ke motho ka botho (Not debian specific at all, but many ideas for lightweight desktops.)

    Openbox guide urukrama’s weblog

    Openbox - Debian Wiki

Why Debian-specific? I don't know of any Debian-only window managers or desktop environments.

I tend to default to GNOME. I'm just used to it. On systems that can't handle it though I've been known to use Fluxbox (similar to Blackbox, but updated regularly) XFce, or LxDE.

I'm not aware of any Debian specific window managers either, and thought all of them would work on pretty much any distribution.

That said, I'm a Gnome user as well, having gone through most of the various windows managers more than once. I used to like KDE until they changed it up a couple of years back.
