Are you going to use the free google phone service?

The guy in the video store asked me if I was going to use the free goggle domestic telephone service. I did not know just what he was talking about so he went into the back of the store and brought out a newspaper which said if you had gmail and a computer microphone you could make free domestic phone calls.

There would be a cost for international calls!!

I told him that I would not be trying that out just because I fear google selling whatever numbers anyone calls to their advertisers salespeople!!

At any rate I am wondering if any LF members have tried using it yet.

Are you going to use the free google phone service?
It is exceedingly doubtful that I'll be using it, but it doesn't bother me if anyone else (or everyone else) does.

I've tried it and enjoyed it. I use google voice quite a bit, as I recently moved and wanted to keep my local number for previous clients. But, I wanted a new number in the area code where I just moved so new or propective clients didn't get weary about calling long distance.

Anyway, back to the original topic...I've used it but in a limited fasion. I don't mind having the feature in gmail but I'm not sure how often I'll be calling with my machine..

    Regards,
Francisck (Awesome my first post is about a google product)

I have been using Google Voice to make long distance calls. This may not be the same thing, as you actually use your phone to talk. I don't have a long distance plan, or a cell phone to make long distance calls.

You first have to choose a new number. I choose one in my area code, with the exact same last four digits of my home phone. You set up your Google Voice account to call your personal (home) phone or cell phone. You then initiate the call within your account. It first calls your personal phone, then when you answer, it calls the number that you told it to call!

    It's pretty neat!

It does sound pretty cool. I would think that people who use the Cellular "minute phones" would not want to try this.....I think they'd still have to pay for use of their cell phone by the minute.
