    PC - personal computer

Or PC - Intel arch, Mac - PPC

I'm having endless fun with this one. Calling some tech support:

    I: You website malfunctions
They: Are you running PC or Mac
    I: PC
    T: OK, open IE ...
I: Sorry, IE is not available for my platform
    ...
    You can imagine the rest.

Actually, in my house a computer running Linux is a PC. A computer running Windows is a Windows computer, and we have no Macs, but we do have iPhones.

"PC" for the desktop, "Laptop" for the portable thingy.

My first PC came both with DOS and IBM OS2. So it never stuck with me that "PC" must imply "Windows".

The *nix people tend to call our machines 'Lintels', as opposed to 'Wintels' that make up the majority of PC's out there.

At risk of stating the obvious, Wintel is the blending of the words Windows and Intel and Lintel of Linux and Intel.

Perhaps we should go by the mascot, and call linux machines Tux. Can you imagine the Apple comercials:
PC and Mac are standing around arguing and in walks a guy in a tuxedo with wads of cash sticking out of his pockets.
PC - "where did you get all the money?"
Mac - "yea, how come your so rich?"
Tux, casually touches the cash - "This? Oh, that's the money I saved by not supporting you."
