    So an avatar is like posting a halloween face and saying this is what I look like? Or really it could be any picture so long as it is not a picture of what you really look like.

    Sorty of like a user name: my real name is John Little but instead of giving my real I give redblue?

    It is a picture that you want to be assoziated with you.

    Most people recognize images faster than text, and memorize them longer.

    The trouble with this forum is that just when you've got used to someone's avatar, they go and change it.

    And btw some people do use a photo of themselves.
