Where is the best computer help?
I read an article in a computer mag comparing the help the reporter got from Best buy Geek squad to the Apple store Geniuses. I kept thinking, "Hey, linux forums is at least that good, or better." Hats off to all the gurus, trusted penguines and contributers on the forum, y'all are awsome.

I think I speak for all here when I say "Thanks Mason"! I've learned a lot here when trying to make sense of questions and researching for relevant answers or places to go to find them. In any case, help is where you find it! I think there is a place for groups like the Geek Squad at Best Buy, or Apple Store "Geniuses", especially when you have a problem with hardware or software you purchased at those stores. However, my opinion about them is that often the "Geek Squad" folks aren't (geeks), and the Apple Store "Geniuses" aren't (geniuses) either...

The real focus is not on Geek versus Genius, but that the best help (for those times you need help in linux) is from the linux forum. The article was bragging on how Geeks and Geniuses were so helpful, well, here at linux forum I have found tons of helpful people. Just wanted to complement everyone on how helpful they are, even if they weren't mentioned in the article.

Unfortunately, there are so many computer users out there that don't realize their machines are infected with malware. They have never installed an operating system of any kind on any computer. Many have never even so much as removed the computer case cover to blow out any dust. Plenty are overly afraid to install software on their computers themselves. Huge numbers don't know how to find help online, and if they do find it, they don't have the confidence needed in themselves to go through with the suggested steps to make the repair.
On the other hand, computer shops all over the world depend heavily on those folks to stay in business.oz

I think what worked best for me here in LF is the sense of camaraderie I felt from day one.
Maybe its just me but I find the "non-rigid" way I have been dealt with very good and encouraging.
I made quite a few booboos when I tried to ask for some questions before but I still have to receive an RTFM reply. Pardon the bad language
