I don't test Linuxes on real machines any more but use my VMware for this purpose. I'll try Mint the next few days for evaluation. I always need a beginners-friendly distro to foist people on Linux when they ask me about computers.

Provided the hardware they are using is good enough then Linux Mint is a good first stop in Linux land ... rolling release Linux Mint based on Debian is even better .

Fortunately in linux land, we have both a deep end and a shallow end. I'm one of those that doesn't like to get my hands dirty, but appreciate that if really needed, I could. Ubuntu is my choice, but Mint would be fine also.

Addendum: Peppermint-One has proven itself to be even livelier and more verstile than Mint-9-lxde recently, in my experience. Hats off to the Developers!

I wish all those working on LMDE longevity and fulfillment, as well.

As far as ubuntu goes -- Qimo is the best rendition, so far, IMHumbleO.

The thing I liked most about Mint was the menu. Now thanks to this, it's on my Ubuntu box and working perfectly

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

For new users I certainly recommend mint my self. I also use it my self, as I want my system to work without too much effort.

I do like to play around with distro's like Gentoo with a similar complexity, but they require too much work for me to get me going on a fresh install. For PC's where I can afford to get into a project (and when I have the time) I'll use the more complex distro's for sure.
