So, what's up with Lubuntu?
Have any of you installed and used Lubuntu?
It seems like it came out of nowhere, then moved up the chart at DistroWatch.com in a hurry, and it has remained high on their page hits ranking chart for a while now. In fact, it appears to be holding its own against Kubuntu and Xubuntu very well, at least for now.oz

I recommended it to a friend of mine, she installed it on an 1800 MHz AMD with 512 MB of RAM and she is happy.

I'll probably get around to installing it myself at some point, but it makes me wonder where it's being talked about enough to get it so high up in the popularity chart so quickly? I'm thinking that their devs must be doing a really good job with it to keep it so high on the charts, as well. The last time I used LXDE there were some things that I didn't like about it, but that's been a while so this might be an easy way to give it another test drive.

I installed it a year or so ago. Whenever it first came out. I will wait until they now get 64-bit version. Probably not until it gets folded into Ubuntu.

LXDE is lightweight but functional if I understand it correctly which could mean that Lubuntu is suited to older hardware where 64 bit might not be an issue

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Yeah, that might be it. The machines that I'm currently running are actually fast enough that Gnome and KDE feel just about as snappy as do LXDE, Xfce, and all the various window managers. While I do still like to play around with lightweight desktops and window managers, I'd prefer to stick with 64-bit Linux, so that rules out any play time for me with Lubuntu, at least for now.

I love Lubuntu on older hardware. I have it on an older 1.1 Ghz 384 MB ram laptop, and it runs great. I prefer the buntu's to other lines, and for older hardware Lubuntu is my go to distro.
