I finally got the White Box web site this morning, and they had no mention of a merger, either.
There are many GNU/Linux mergers that would not be far-fetched, and this one would certainly make considerable sense, in that they both have the same code base and, seemingly, the same user base. Scientific Linux has a little different user base, but a merger there makes some sense, too.
I'll keep poking around also, to see if I can find anything else about this.
