and where are these used now a days?means application wise...........

You can go to the distrowatch site to see a fairly accurate list of the most popular distriubitions of Linux. The base commands should be the same or similar in most circumstances. Your other questions are too vague to get any real answer.

Basic UNIX commands are the same.
Package Management is the main difference between distribution families in commands and syntax. (Debian vs Slackware vs RedHat vs YelloDog)
