    Start/join LUG

I live in Seneca Falls, NY and want to get together with some other Linux users. Does anyone know if there is a LUG (I've looked, Rochester and Syracuse are too far) or how I could go about starting one here locally.

    Thanks!!!

You should probably post some meeting notices at the local libraries and schools, and an advertisement about it in the local newspaper(s) might help in gathering some participants as well. Of course, having your own web page so that people could find you using search engines would be good, too.

I had a bad experience with my first (and last) LUG meeting. For one thing they met in a tavern and a bunch of creepy people spent more time trying out pickup lines than talking about Linux. A "formal" or at least semi-organized meeting with prepared presentations and stuff would be so much more beneficial. If I was starting a LUG from scratch, I'd shoot for something like that, finding speakers and presenters, make a few of my own to present, stuff like that. If it's done right, it can probably be fun!
