We dealt with this a couple of years back (can't find the thread, I'm afraid). We agreed that, compared with PC/Windows as a stuffy office type and Mac as a cool, laid-back guy, Linux was a calm and sensible woman.

Not too calm and sensible, I hope.

If you'll notice the end of my last post I said exactly the same. The thread has gone off topic. So, to reiterate my original point. My sister and younger brothers use to play with a Linux install but, didn't like the lack of iTunes support (and I'm not going to give up using the newest version of iTunes in Windows so I can sync them like I'd need to). My sister used to play some of the games I had on my Ubuntu install (I do love Linux games, simple but, usually well though out). A better way to ensure compatibility would be a great way to get more people of both genders to use Linux. My Dual Booters WINE idea (that's what I'll call it for easy reference) was just the best way I could think of to get the better compatibility and thus increase the appeal of Linux (particularly those like Ubuntu).

P.S. in case you haven't noticed I prefer Debian systems. Red Hat though interesting is just to much of a pain (at least every version I've tried). I'll admit it's possible that some of the turnoffs have been fixed (lack of NTFS support, not sure if that's fixed or not, can't imagine the difference in the command line would get changed though).
