Hi everyone I am new to linux and will need some help with my hp zd7249cl laptop to be able to get online. It has a wireless switch on it and will not work in ubuntu 10.10. The wired card is no good so for now it is unable to get online at all. I am using my desktop now to try to get some help with the problem. The switch works in windows, but I would like to make the switch to linux. Thanks for welcoming me to your forum and I will try to learn the right way to get help and hopefully be able to help others in the future.

Welcome to the forums. When you say the switch doesn't work, are you referring to the wireless on/off switch, or that the wireless card is on, but wont connect?

    wireless switch

I have found that the firmware is not installed for my wireless and that is why it doesn't work. Now I just need to find out how to get the firmware installed and I will be very happy again. I think I may have figured it out by using a wired card to get the laptop online and getting the drivers for the wireless. I will let you know if it works after a reboot.

Yes it works now and thanks for the help. The switch didn't work to turn on the wireless card on my laptop. The wired card is broken so I was unable to get on the internet untill I got a wired card from a friend. Then it was just a mater of searching for drivers and bam I'm back in business. If I can help some one later with a problem after I get more use to how things work I will be happy to do that.
