    Anyone have suggestions on ways to block spammers?

    I belong to a small ubuntu network site that is always crawling with annoying spammers!! Does anyone at LF have some suggestions that I could pass on to the moderator there? Thanks!

    this is what I use as a moderator at AntiX forums Cuz. It checks IP addresses,Email addresses, and User Names. A new Member does not get approved till us mods run a check on them through this site.

    Stop Forum Spam


    Edit: The only way to block spammer bots is to let them wait for pre-approval before joining a small site like yours. Choices are limited by sites software Cuz.

    Hi Cuz,

    My site used to get over 10,000 spam comments a day. Yes a day! Yes, 10,000! About 18 months ago I made 2 simple changes and since then have had none! And no false positives and it is automatic.

    I don't want to post it in open forum as it is still working. If anyone is interested drop me a PM and if I know you, I'll share it freely.

    10,000 spams a day is only a few bots. It did force me to turn off comments for a while though as I couldn't keep up!

    My preferred method of discouraging spammers? A shotgun and a big dog! Truly irritating, and costly! Elija, please PM me your methods, and Roky thanks for the link!
