New Linux User-FREEDOM AT LAST
Man....I can't believe I've been missing out on this new world for so many years. Never really understood the concept of freedom from an obstructive OS. I'm still in shock and am looking forward to what this NEW world has to offer. Free at last. Semper Fi.

Yes, freedom is exhilarating, isn't it! Now, you are only limited by your own imagination, instead of someone else telling you want you are limited to. That said, not everything on Linux is free - there is plenty of proprietary software for Linux out there, but by far most is free and open source, so you can get the code, study it, figure out how to do this kewl stuff, and then improve it! Just remember, over 90% of the top 200 super computers in the world are running Linux! At my wife's lab, they use Linux servers to process some 1000-10000 gigabits per second of data from high energy physics experiments. No Windows there, except on some admin desktops...
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Rubberman, what are you trying to say about those admins? <set up for you to make funny remarks>

Ok - here it comes! They have plenty of windows, just not computer Windows, at the lab - in their high-rise office tower! Biggest structure around here (40 miles west of Chicago). So, my wife has a nice view of the prairie and Fox River (looking west) looking out her thermally insulated glass window. I think that on the other side of the building (Wilson Hall) looking east, they can see the towers of Chicago, such as the (former) Sears Tower. Anyway, Wilson Hall is high enough to have a very functional Foucault pendulum. Neat place, and well worth a visit if you come to Chicago, Fermi Lab. They even have their own herd of buffalo, lots of deer, coyotes, fishing ponds, restored prairie grass lands, woods, and bike paths. We have a couple of barn dances a week at one of the barns on the lab property that is over 100 years old, and they have a very good auditorium at Wilson Hall where they have some fine concerts on a regular basis. Lots of educational tours and such, so come on out!
Anyway, here is the web site: Fermilab | Home Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
