A workaround for video blanking on install
I don't need help, I've found a workaround, I'm just posting this in case anyone else stumbles across the same issue.
OS is Scientific Linux 6 (re-branded RHEL6) in both 32-bit and 64-bit. Target systems were HP 6910 laptops with Intel 965 video chips.
Problem was, midway through install, the screen would go blank and nothing further would happen. This was repeatable, for me at least half a dozen times (Someone once told me, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results, but who am I to listen?)
I eventually stumbled across a workaround. I plugged an external monitor in and the install went all the way through successfully. Funny thing was, it never actually switched over to the external monitor during install - all it did was flicker it a couple times as if it were merely checking to see that it was there, and then moved on.

Hi and Welcome !
You can try text based installation too. Installer in text mode doesn't use fancy graphical interface and work fine in most of machines. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Interesting. I'm running SL6 on my workstation. I haven't installed it on my laptop yet. I might do that. In any case, I'll give a heads-up to the development team of SL at Fermi Lab where my wife works.
... A bit later ...
Ok. I forwarded your post to the SL team at Fermi Lab. If/when I get feedback I'll post it here.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
