    1. Backup your user data (not the whole OS)
    2. Name data partitions with a name that means something to you (otherwise you WILL format it by mistake)
    3. Here is a live CD you can use this to fix anything you make a mess of (except recreating your user data - which is why you need to back it up!)
    4. It's worth the effort
