LibreOffice now in Debian Wheezy!
I installed it today. It comes with a big bunch of libraries - 300 MB when it's all unpacked. Some of them seem a bit odd to me; I mean why does an office package need ogg-vorbis? I take it the program doesn't play "Music While You Work".
On the plus side, it seems to load incredibly quickly compared to OOo. If my first impressions are correct, I might even clear OOo from Crux and use Debian/LibreOffice instead for my text work."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

So I've heard.
just wondering but does Libre offer cross platform for OOo or Microsoft Office?
I was reading a few things and none of them seemed to discuss that little hiccup of an issue.

Libre Office handles MS Office files a lot better (in my experience) than OOo, because they have incorporated the enhancements of go-oo.org into the code base. In fact go-oo.org has merged with Libre Office. So, for compatibility and cross platform sake, Libre Office is better natively than OOo. I haven't looked back since I switched a few months ago.

I've been using LibreOffice since an early release candidate and is faster than OOo overall. It seems lighter on resources to. I had no real problems with MS Office compatibility with OOo and have had none with Libre Office.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I am not certain precisely what the use of all the packages are, but modern office suites now contain multi media capabilities, especially in the presentation software, so that is a likely reason for the inclusion of a wide variety of libraries and interfaces.
Some of the planned capabilities are not implemented. At this stage, it is primarily a fork of the Open Office software, which has strong compatibility with many other office suites. Over time, it will diverge with Open Office in terms of appearance, but it will remain compatible with formats supported in other major office suites.
