Welcome Home Mac! Thank you PREY!
Several weeks ago, somebody broke into our house when all of us were fast asleep. It was drizzling you see and in our country, people tend to sleep deeper when it's the case.
Thieves however takes this opportunity to scout around for would be victims.
March 1, 2011, between 3 and 4:30 AM, a thief broke into our house.
He was able to get the Mac of my son, two units cellphones (ericsson), and a cheap wrist watch that looked expensive in the dark
Anyway, I had "prey" installed in the mac and on March 3 at around 11PM in the evening, we started to receive our first report. The suspect was reconfiguring the settings and he happened to open his FB account. These following reports were sent to us:
1) A snapshot of the guy through the webcam.
2) A screenshot of his desktop, FB being one of them.
3) His IP address.
4) Approximate location by GPRS.
With the help of authorities and friends, we were able to make a complete profile of the suspect. Yesterday, he was "invited" to the station just to shed some light on the pictures etc. At first he tried to deny it but at the end, he broke down and spilled the beans.
1) He confessed to reprogramming the unit.
2) Selling it to another party.
3) Not getting any commission from the cheap sales, 200 USD, but was just given a chance to sniff some drugs for free in return for his work.
4) He had a decent job but was hooked to drugs as of the moment.
5) He promised to return the unit.
6) He gave the names and address of the thieves whom had actually broken into out house.
7) He requested that his name be kept anonymous for fear of life.
I ended up settling with the fellow. He returned the Mac this morning and the authorities are going to get after those criminals, in due time. I think they have started to profile this scums as of yesterday.
Thank God for this. Thank God for Prey. Thank God the return of my son's mac. I cannot afford to buy him this machine. It was actually a graduation gift from my sister in law two years ago. A hand me down actually.
What touched me most was when my son actually thanked me. He was happy and therefore I am happy. I told him..."ANYTHING FOR YOU SON"
Please join me in our little celebration. Thank you!
sincerely,

Haha, nice! You know, it's good to hear these tracking packages come in handy. This brightens my day

I may have to look into Prey and throw it on my laptop too.

Wow, glad everything turned out okay. I guess Prey turned out to be a blessing, I hope I never need to use my Prey.

Glad it's home. And as no-one else has taken the obvious

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
