I used to ride bikes routinely but got hit by a car once and then by a truck the next time. In both cases it was clearly the other drivers fault, and they both claimed that they never saw me, but only felt the hard thud at the time of the crash. After being lucky enough to live through both of those events, I decided not to go for number three, but I do miss the thrill of riding them.

Pretty much the same thing here. Rather than get ran over, I took the "easy" way out and went off the road and crashed all by my lonesome self, I don't think the other guy EVER saw me, even after I crashed. I do miss riding and I am sure I will get a new Bike soon, but I'm thinking I won't ride it in the city anymore.
Nice Link cousinlucky, I did not know Clark Gable was a rider. Hmmm.
I really like this quote from Hunter S Thompson in the above link, it makes my blood boil.
But with the throttle screwed on there is only the barest margin and no room for mistakes. It has to be done right . . and thats when the strange music starts, when you stretch your luck so far that the fear becomes exhilaration and vibrates along your arms. You can barely see a hundred; the tears blow back so fast that they vaporize before they get to your ears. The only sounds are the wind and the dull roar floating back from the mufflers. You watch the white line and try to lean with it . . . howling through a turn to the right, then to the left and down the long hill to Pacifica . . . letting off now, watching for cops, but only until the next dark stretch and another few seconds on the edge . . . The Edge . . . ” – Hunter S. Thompson, Hells AngelsI do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

As a teenager I got onto the back of a bike with an older player from the pool room and we raced up the hill on Humboldt Avenue between moving buses and cars!! It's a wonder I did not wet my pants. No more of that for me; I escaped death that time and my guardian angel said to me " You do that again and you die "!! No more bikes!
But I can still dream about them. I raced a guy on a Hog down in Georgia one night we were doing 135 on a deserted highway when he went into his next gear and took off!! I gave him a few beeps of victory and brought my Lemans Sport back down to legal speeds.
Years ago my bike riding upstairs neighbor Jack got both of his legs mangled by a
drunken driver running a red light and it took him a very long time and lots of rehab to even be able to walk again. Bike riding in any large city is very hazardous!!Linux registered user # 414321

Both of my accidents were in the middle of town, so perhaps if I'd stayed in the country those wouldn't have happened. Oddly enough, though, I've often thought the guy driving the truck in the second accident might have run me over on purpose because he was convicted a few years later of murdering a number of people. I knew him personally and always thought he was a bit of an odd duck.

Only accidents I have ever had is
1. Been rear-ended twice. Once by my wife (we were dating and partying) at a red light. The other at a stop sign.
2. In El Paso Tx I had a 7-Eleven girl leaving work run a stop sign with the cops sitting drinking coffee in the 7-Eleven parking lot.
Been riding since the 1970s. Still own 6 motorcycles. Not the bikers fault. They should outlaw cages IMHO. Minivans are proof that evil exists on Planet Earth.
I live in the sticks now. All my accidents were in metropolitan areas where a majority of drivers are a danger to anyone. Pedestrians, Bicycles, Skateboarders, Baby Carriages and other drivers. You can keep the big city for all I care. I ride the roads of Big Bend, Fort Davis, and Balmorreh . Party in Alpine Tx at the Railroad Blues Bar .
I would not trade my lifestyle for no mans. Been a good run so far. No regrets either.

Awesome stuff Lucky...brilliant. I've been searching for that James Dean's wallpapers since a long
.
Me being a bikes lover, still sadly kept changing bikes time to time.
I'm not into street stunts or high speed biking, though I'm a more of a kind of tourer biker, I love to tour, short or long distance.
As of now having a Yamaha FZ-16 and saving money for a bigger and better tourer, may be a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500(soon to be launched in India) or the HD-Iron.
Regards.

I ride a scooter for the economy. If I take the trunk off it fits in my mini-van...
Over at Scootdawg, we sort of fell into a conversation about aeromodding (aka ecomodding). I have actually learned a few things, like Craig Vetter was the inventor of Hippo Hands and the WindJammer fairings, and was in large part responsible for the simple disign of the 477 mpg enclosed fairing (which is still available as a kit). Just wondering if there is any interest or experience in that sort of thing here.
