Actually, I started with Ubuntu and didn't like it very much.
Moved over to Fedora for a few years. Loved it! Learned how to fiddle around in the CLI without feeling like it was my only option.
This site really helped me with most of my Fedora issues: mjm wired :: Resources
Now I'm back to jumping around a bit.

If you like pclinux and zorin, try them, both are good distributions.
