Lakshmipathi!
Currently I have 3. One pure bred dachshund and two mix breeds and two mongrels as guards. 5 all in all.
I used to have a purebred doberman, german shepherd, labrador retriever, basset hound along with some halfbreed japanese spitz.
I love dogs but now I make sure I don't get to be too emotionally involved since it affects me too if they get sick or die.
hahaha

Yeah, true one shouldn't get attached to them too much - otherwise it will be hard when we have to leave them.

The trouble with dogs and cats is that they live long enough for you to get really attached to them and then they go and die on you. I don't think people who keep "small furries" (mice, gerbils and so on) have this sort of problem.
Many years ago, my mother and I were joint owners of a remarkably intelligent corgi. He lived to be 18, which is good for any dog and almost unheard-of in this breed. We both cried buckets when he finally had to be put down.
I have also owned several cats, but Roger is only my second dog and I think he will be my last."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

18 years is too long for anything
. I know I'll be easily get attached to a pen/books If i used for one/two years
. Yes,I know it be very difficult to leave a dog ,in case of its death - that's why I'm seriously thinking about having couple of dogs - a hushand/wife
so that their children and grandchildren will be with us - even when their parent dogs leave us
How old is Roger ?- Lakshmipathi.G

Ozar/nujinini both your forgot to mention your dog name
Reason ,why seeking dog names is because , If I get new dog in future , I may name it from this list.
Does anyone came across, someone having couple of dogs along living with their children and grandchild in their house ?- Lakshmipathi.G

We have, of all things, a toy poodle named Ginger. She's a second-hand dog, having been given to us by a couple who could no longer keep her. The husband had heart surgery, and was told he had to get rid of anything that might present a germ risk, including the dog. We tried to give her to others, but no one wanted her, so we took her in to prevent having her euthanized. We've grown very attached to her, and while she thinks she's my dog, my 85-year-old mother may change her mind since she's come to live with us. Ginger knows she's not allowed into our bedroom, because my wife won't allow her on the carpet, so when I go there she comes to the door and lies on the floor patiently waiting until I come out. Since I'm away from home every other week, she may have switched to my mother by the time I get back, since I hear that my mother is spoiling her outrageously.

Six and a half. He was born in October according to his vaccination certificate. I got him from a shelter at about 15 months.
One thing they suggested at the adoption meeting was to give our dogs new names as they might have bad associations with the old ones; I was told that mine definitely needed a new name because he had been abused by a previous owner. So I called him Roger because I thought he looked like a Roger. Also Gerald Durrell had a dog called Roger when he was a boy in Corfu, and writes about him brilliantly in 'My Family and Other Animals'.
In spite of the fact that he came to me with a dreadful reputation (he was supposed to be vicious and a man-hater), he is actually a sweet-tempered dog and good with children. He is registered with Pets as Therapy and does useful work visiting an old folks home every Friday."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Have 3. All rescued. #Wife is the City Animal Control Officer So I get 1st pick.
1. Popeye= Chihuahua and Rat Terrier Mix (fierce but I love him) Good gaurd dog.
2. Midget = Toy Chihuahua (a lady and very sensitive) good alarm sounder.
3. Sasha= ShiTzu (abused so bad she has internal hernias /kicked).A rover/wanderer that appreciates what she has now. Good guard dog.
I used to raise and keep pit bull dogs when I was raising my boys. Names were Padurka, Bruno, Olive, Natasha. Never had a incident. Raised and kept them in the country at my ranch. Good free range dogs for coyotes.bobcats, porcupines, skunks and rattle
snakes and guards for the alerting of drug runners. Kept them till they passed away. I keep smaller dogs now since I live in a town.sLinux Registered User # 475019
