Welcome to LFO, glad you could make it before your addiction got out of control. Who knows, you could have ended up on the darkside (they have cookies)
Admitting you're hooked on Linux is a big step that can leave you with cold chills, sweating and hair loss.
But after the initial shock wears off, you find yourself, somehow, smarter.

Now isn't that just like a man! I have better things to do than tweak my desktop, but I adore having a system I can actually understand, instead of having to depend on the good intentions of Gates and Balmer.
The reason Linux is fast is not that it isn't subject to software bloat, but that whenever a program (or a whole distribution) gets bloated and slow, someone will fork off a streamlined version that you can run without having to buy a new computer. That's what free software really means."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

I've got Linux Mint 9 on the wife's desktop along with Windows XP. She uses Mint the majority of the time and likes it.
I just got a new laptop for school, I'm going to complete my Bachelor's in IT. The laptop has Windows 7 on it, but when I get time I'll set it to dual boot with Mint, either Mint 10 KDE or LMDE.

The good thing about a linux addiction, is that unlike windows, you can download all the distro's you can handle for free. If you have the hard drive to handle it, you could put 20 or thirty distro's on it at no cost. If you wanted to install all the different windows versions, you would spend a fortune.
