    OpenOffice.org is dying. Oracle, who now own it, aren't really committed to it as Sun were. I recommend LibreOffice, the community fork of OOo.

    I disagree. C is a powerful language, which makes it easy for programmers to make silly mistakes with it, but it's not that difficult to learn. C (and its derivative C++) are practically the native languages of Linux so it's worth exploring.
