    Lightbulb Voice like IRC?

Is there anything like it? Where you talk to whoever is connected via voice instead of text like traditional IRC.

I think it would be cool, if there was one, to create a channel for LinuxForums, and you go there to talk anything Linux, or whatever we converse about in the Coffee Lounge etc...

[I have TinyChat in mind, unless you can think up a better free one. ]

Hope to see if this goes well

Micah, good idea, so far I didn't come across such feature on open source groups for sure but such feature's success depend its members. If people are more interested in talking instead of typing, sure they prefer voice tool over IRC.

Well, maybe. In my younger years, before I had access to the internet I use to talk on the CB radio (couldn't afford a decent HAM radio), you could have a nice chat but when there were four or more people in the channel it could be a mess. In this case text have lot of advantages in the forums over voice.
    a) much lower bandwidth.
    b) time independient (i mean, we dont have to be online at the same time)
    c) avoid loosing time waiting for somebody else to come on line (is anybody here?!?!?)
    d) much easier to keep a record of eveything posted
    e) easier to get along with non native english speakers (like me), accents, etc.

In the other hand it could make a closer, more personal community, it could be a place where maybe there would be no record of anything said , just join in and speak. Bandwidth aside it is very easy to make, maybe with asterisk VOIP and SIP or IAX clients. Anybody has more ideas about it?

I guess you are right about the 4 or more people, and the record, there doesn't need to be one, because you never have a record on phone calls, or face to face conversations. Isn't VOIP telephone calling? Because I don't want it a telephone thing, I want it to be something in the web browser, that you get together in...

Well, there are softphone (phone by software) like zoyper or x-lite wich are free to use and they use the sip or iax standard. Also there are some java applets you can put on the website an run them from the browser and do the same thing.

Okay, I don't want the user to download and install anything, I want it to be as simple as possible. I don't know where I would put a java applet, I don't have a website...
