    Goodbye to old friends?

Several things on which we all depend seem to be reaching their end of life.

    1) Linux 2.6 kernel. Linus says this has been going for too long already and is thinking of moving to 2.8 or even 3.0.

    2) gtk2+. Well, perhaps we don't all depend on this because a lot of people use KDE/QT. But gtk3+ is out and the gnome developers say the next update of gtk2+ will be the last.

    3) ipv4. They are trying to get people to switch to ipv6 before the world runs out of addresses.

Right... everything seems to be changing all the time!

I wish that all changes could always be for the better, but often that seems not to be the case. I'm not sure about those changes you've mentioned above just yet.

Number 3 is the only one I have a problem with.....I think something has to give soon in the IPv6 vs IPv4 battle. What's the big deal with that anyway? Switch already so I can recompile my kernel to include support for it.

A while back, IPv6 capability always used to slow down my internet connection and I'd have to disable it to get things back up to speed, but that issue seems to have gone away, at least for me. If we are going to do IPv6, I'm ready to get the show on the road, too!

Same here but I haven't had to do that this time around since I last installed Gentoo.
