Garuda One (Garuda OS) A new Distro or Pirated??? read this...

A new kind a linux or exactly a remastered linux (pclinuxos) "GARUDA ONE" claimed they made an OS (they said an OS not a linux or remastered linux, or smells like a new linux OS from LFS. ).
They never say "OUR OS IS BASED ON PCLINUXOS" some of us didn't agree with them because they said on their website they made an OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM but never showing the license who made it before (in this case PCLINUXOS). . I made this campaign because of us hate a piracy like this, they not obey the rule of GPL so we call them (Garuda One) is piracy.
and this is the screenshot from someone testing the OS

    See what i mean???
this is Teknologi Informasi untuk Indonesia yang lebih BERSIH, lebih UNGGUL dan lebih MANDIRI --> garuda one website (open with google translate from indonesian to your own language).

OK so this is way of topic, but how do you get all those extra sweet emoticons?? I'm very curious. You used two I've never seen on here before (EDIT: I think I figured it out, are you just using .gif and posting it as an image, then obviously it just appears? YES DID IT!! Where do you find these lovely emoticons, hmmmmm?)

    But anyway,
I looked at the website, and some of the things they have to offer look pretty cool in the OS. On the other hand, it looks like its a linux based system trying way to hard to be (as much as possible) a Windows OS.

Although I really don't know exactly what you are trying to say here.

That they based it off Linux distro, and are trying to deny any of it? Saying they made this OS from the ground up?

And whats up with the release date in terminal (2009-10-11)? And it just came out?? Wow, they have either been working on this forever, or ripped off another Linux distro, changing a few things, and claiming it theirs. Am I right??

Whenever you think GNU licenses are being violated by someone, the best place to research the issue and report it if needed is probably over at the gnu.org website:

    Thumbs down Hmmm

Does not seem like piracy at all to me....

They clearly state this is an Open Source OS and even show the Kernel (linux) version in the about...

Some key points, are they selling it? No. Support? Yes but that is cool.

Do they claim it is based on Open Source Linux? Yes, not in the most obvious way, but they do.

Do they include the proper documentation of the Open Source nature of the product in the distro? I cant comment as I have not installed it.

Do they contribute changes in code back to the mainstream and do they keep the comments in source as opposed to changing them to something proprietary? Again I can't comment as I have not seen the source code.

Considering the whole claim of this distro is to reduce piracy in Indonesia, it would be quite silly of them to "shoot themselves in the foot" by pirating Linux...

My Two Cents, Worth One Cent.

I don't know about that, but my friend who know about the man behind GAruda One said that he doesn't contribute anything for regional pclinuxos community, they just request help from community but doesn't seems to give back something useful for community.
several remastered linux from pclinuxos was made before, perisaianak and pclinux3d(and do you know what is pclinux3d??? it just pclinuxos + compiz and they sell it)

Are they selling the software or are they following the Red Hat model and selling support which is perfectly valid. Or are they following the osdisc model and charging for physical media which is also valid. It is good manners and almost becoming a custom to donate a portion of such sales to the parent project but it isn't a licensing requirement.

I don't know the answers to those questions as the website isn't in English.

    Additionally according to the GPL

It is pretty much impossible to pirate software released under the GPL. Probably the only license that makes it harder is the BSD license.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
