    Digital photo/video folder structure

What folder structure do you use to sort your digital photos/videos?

    I currently have -

    year/month/event

    eg: 2010/01 January/Wedding

Is there a better way? I am tempted to change as often I know the year something happened but not the month. Perhaps...

    2011/01 Wedding
    2011/01 Divorce Party
    2011/02 Holiday in Spain

    would be better? thoughts?

I guess everyone has their own favourite way and what works for one may not work for another. I use the event as the top level, and the specific date (assuming multiple occurrences of the event) as YYYYMMDD. I can remember the event, and the subdirectory reminds me of the possible dates.

Hope you find a method that's perfect for you!

And please don't put spaces in your file/directory names!

One thing I like about Linux is that after I import the pics from my camera to the hard drive I can right click on the picture, select properties then click on the image tab and it gives me the date the picture was taken.

Assuming the time and date were set up correctly on the camera.

I sort mine by subject with sub folders for the year such as Family with sub folders inside to sort by year taken..
